Matchmaking Issues on PAYDAY 3 is Being Fixed

PAYDAY 3 was released last week and during the weekend had concurrent players totaling 218,250 across all platforms. Exciting as the launch was, it was not without problems. The biggest appear to be related to matchmaking.

Developer Starbreeze Studios admitted that the infrastructure for the game's matchmaking feature did not perform as expected. It appears that the matchmaking software encountered what the studio termed as an "unforeseen error." This resulted in the said software not being able to manage the large number of players logging to the game.

The good news is that this issue is being solved as a new matchmaking server software has been slowly deployed on all the regions. This has led to an improved performance. The problem was that this software update once again resulted in an instability to the matchmaking structure over the weekend. This issue remains to be worked on with the goal of improving and stabilizing the online systems of the game.

The studio went on to say that this issue wasn’t present during the Technical Betas and even during Early Access. This could be because there was a limit to the number of players along with load-balancing. For the short-term the plan is to make sure the player experience is better. Starbreeze did say that though that for the long-term, they're planning to look for a new partner for matchmaking services and maybe even make the game less dependent when it comes to online services.

Talking about this issue, Starbreeze CEO Tobias Sjögren shared that they are disappointed in the issues faced by players during the launch weekend. He went on to say that there's a lot of work ahead to regain the trust of the community.

PAYDAY 3 is the highly anticipated sequel to one of the most popular co-op shooters ever. In the game, the legendary Payday Crew that's dreaded by both law and underworld alike is back. They've come out from their peaceful retirement and now back in the criminal world due to a new threat, one that was as result of chaos the Crew left in their wake. To identify and defeat this new threat, the Crew has to leave their Washington DC roots and move to New York City. This new location not only brings with it new challenges but also new opportunities, especially for a heister with a plan.

The versions of the game are currently being offered. The Standard Edition has the base game. The Silver Edition has the base game along with the Dark Sterling Mask, 3 Days Early Access, and 6 Months Season Pass. Finally, the Gold Edition has what's in the Silver Edition plus a 1-year Season Pass.
