Paradox Interactive announced that it has partnered with Dead Good Comics for the release of an official comic book for Crusader Kings III. Titled “Crusader Kings III: Many Roads to Power,” it's going to serve as the prequel to Roads to Power. This mini comic is set to be available digitally for free beginning August 22. Players and fans can access it through the Crusader Kings III website and the game's official Steam page.

Meet the Macedonian

Many Roads to Power tells the story of Basil I, also known as "the Macedonian." The mini comic follows his rise to Emperor of the Byzantine Empire between 867 and 886 AD. Aside from the exciting story, there's a lot to enjoy.

Behind the Scenes

For instance, there's the stunning cover from none other than Vincenzo Riccardi (Something is Killing the Children, Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!). The artwork were made possible by Simone Ragazzoni (Dune: House Corrino, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners) and Ellie Wright (Disney Villains: Cruella de Vil, Survival Street). The story was done by Stu Taylor (Octobriana and the Underground, Warhammer Monthly).

In a statement, Paradox Interactive Product Marketing Manager Francesca Passoni revealed that while at its heart, Crusader Kings III is a game that's "about people and their stories." She went on to say that they've been looking for various ways of bringing the characters to life and they're excited to see how fans react to the mini comic. Stu Taylor of Dead Good Comics meanwhile said that it's been an honor for them to have been trusted to tell this story that's set in the universe of the game.

The Road to Power

The Road to Power expansion for the game is coming out on September 24. It's going to offer players new ways to unlock power and prestige. One of the changes is the Administrative Government. It's a new style of empire management where players get to experience medieval rules that's outside of the feudal system. Meanwhile, there's also Family Estate where players get to earn a seat of power even if they don't own any land.

New as well is the Influence System where players can build up the influence of their character within an administrative empire. That means they get the chance to climb through the ranks of the bureaucracy.
