Rice Games has released a new trailer for its upcoming title Shujinkou. The game is releasing on February 13 and to be available for the PC via Steam along with the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

The trailer is being released in conjunction with the start of the pre-orders for the game via the PlayStation Store. You can watch the trailer here.

Meet the Heroes

In case you're wondering, Shujinkou is Japanese for "main protagonist" or "hero." In the trailer, we are introduced to the three main characters who are Shu, Jin, and Kou. We are also introduced to the core mechanics of the game.

Anyway, the first half of the trailer shows us how players can collect Kanakae Orbs and then use them in the game's turn-based combat system. We also see features of the game like enemy negotiations, equipment forging, and skills in battle. Of course, there's the general labyrinth exploration.

The latter part of the trailer then reveals that there are 200 side quests available plus the six partners of the Fuu Lobby, and the Akagi Decoration functionality. Finally the trailer shows the items that customers who pre-order can receive.

A Unique Experience

While Shujinkou is a dungeon-crawling JRPG, it offers something unique compared to other games in the same genre. That’s because the game gives players the chance to learn Japanese as they play.

There are thousands of Japanese words available that players can master along with phrases, kana, kanji, and grammar elements. It goes without saying that players can do this if they have focus, diligence, and consistency. In addition, the language content in the game spans from JLPT N5 to N1 standards. This means it can accommodate learners at any stage.

The studio shared that Shujinkou isn’t purely a learning tool. It remains to be a video game that has optional but comprehensive language learning functionalities embedded into various gameplay mechanics.

What do you think? Does the game offer something new to the genre? You can read more about what the different editions bring to the table here. You can also learn the bonus items you can receive when you pre-order for the PlayStation 5 here.

For those on the PC, wishlist Shujinkou on Steam now.
