Studio to Remove Controllers in Once Human

The March Update has just been released for Once Human but that hasn't stopped Starry Studio from continuing to work on the game. One of the issues being worked on are related to Controllers. In particular, the plan is to remove this feature in the next patch.

In the game, the Controller is an item that's used to gain better rewards after defeating a Monolith Boss. The studio revealed in a post that these were designed to make sure that the dungeons don't yield unlimited mods along with other stat-boosting items. If that happened, it would have forced players to farm the dungeons excessively resulting in them grinding. It looks like that's what happened especially when playtime increased. Players now had to farm not only Controllers but even mods.

Because of this issue, the studio made the decision to overhaul mods and other stat-related systems. This is to make them more accessible and at the same time less time-consuming. With the introduction of cross-character asset sharing, the studio believed that it was time to phase out Controllers and ensure players aren't pressured to play multiple characters to obtain more mods.

With this change, the studio shared that they'll not only be providing compensation but also make adjustments. Now since each player uses Controllers differently, letting the remaining Controllers be exchanged for high-value Mod Crates is going to be unfair. What's going to happen is that each account receives a one-time gift of compensation tokens. This is determined by the most season settlements completed by a single character on that account. These compensation tokens can then be used to redeem Mod Crates and other in-game items.

Now the next update is releasing March 27 and once it goes live, Controllers are going to be obsolete. Before that happens, players can redeem their leftover Controllers at the Camp Shop in exchange for Mod Crates, Deviation merging items, or mod parts.

Once Human introduces players to an open-world and survival game where they get to explore an absorbing post-apocalyptic Earth overrun by an extraterrestrial entity known as Stardust. Combat is a core feature of the game as it offers exhilarating battles versus diverse enemies along with fights against powerful bosses from another realm. In addition to ensuring survival, the actions of the players in battle play a role in the welfare of other survivors.
