The upcoming turn-based dice-oriented deck-building roguelike, Tamarak Trail, from Yarrow Games and Versus Evil, is stirring up anticipation with its new series of Dev Diary videos. The first entry, which delves deep into the developer's inspirations for the game’s eye-catching art style, is now available for viewing. The team at Yarrow Games captures the look and feel of the Group of Seven, a group of renowned Canadian landscape painters from the early 20th century, and also draws inspiration from storybook illustrators and ballet set designers from the same era. See how these works of art brought to life the woodsy folklore world of Tamarak Trail in the Art Inspiration Dev Diary here:
Set in a decaying earth, Tamarak Trail immerses players in the role of a member of a secret society named the Sturgeon Lodge. The players' mission is to unravel the mystery of this decay, identify the source of the corruption, and stop it at all costs. Players can choose one of three characters - The Magician, the Tracker, or the Detective - each with their own unique abilities and traits. Procedurally-generated paths offer a myriad of possibilities where players can encounter events, monsters, campsites, treasure, and more.
The game employs a tactical dice-building system where each face could mean the difference between victory or defeat. Different dice sides can be used to attack directly, apply buffs and debuffs, inflict damage over time, defend oneself, to “flip” them to another side for combo awesomeness and much more. In true deck-builder fashion, dice faces can be customized with more abilities after each victory, introducing new attacks, defenses, and combinations for future battles.
Tamarak Trail is now available for wishlisting on Steam.
