Good news for those who want to try out Second Wave. Developer Challengers Games has announced that the Early Access of the game is now free-to-play. Though there's a bit of a catch.
Second Wave was released on Early Access in Steam back on May 31. At that time, the game had a buy-to-play requirement. The studio shared in a statement that after getting feedback from the community and because of discussions, the decision was made to make the game free-to-play along with an apology issued to all players.
As mentioned though, there's a catch. The studio revealed that because of restrictions on Steam, they were unable to convert the whole game from Buy to Play to Free to Play. The good news is that they were able to find an alternative solution. Those who want to play the game get the chance to do so through a "demo" version that's available for free. Unlike with other titles, this demo offers the full experience and even connects with those who have the "official" version.
Now some of you are probably asking what happens to those who already bought the game. They're going to get 10,000 Crystals, which has a value of $100, as a token of appreciation. This includes those who bought the game before it became free-to-play.
In celebration of the game becoming free-to-play, the ongoing event is going to continue which allows players to obtain as much as 2,800 Crystals. This event is part of the regular version of the game and won't be offered to free players. The official version of the game remains available until the end of the month and is offered at $30 for those who want to buy it as a form of support.
Second Wave invites players to the world of Armantia and join in the fight for supremacy. The game features what can be described as the best elements of competitive team-based shooters and puts it into a truly exciting gaming experience. Aside from being part of the battle, players can also learn more about the history of Armantia along with the lore that surrounds the Second Wave through a novel.
