The Vanguard Arrives to Sunderfolk with Patch 2.0

The newest update for Sunderfolk is finally here. Patch 2.0 brings a new hero to the game. Get ready to meet the Vanguard, a tanky brawler who's able to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Berserker and take on all of the hits.

Players can choose to be a Vanguard having a mercenary-focused background, a champion gladiator, or even someone who cares for the downtrodden. Regardless of which they go for, they have brute strength and a giant sword that can clear away enemies.

New Mechanic

The Vanguard introduces a new mechanic known as Knockback. When used against an enemy, they'll be moved back to the indicated hex. However, any obstacle in their get pushed back too. This works against enemies and allies. Allies in particular react as if they were Swapped. The initial enemy meanwhile moves towards the final hex, no matter what. Enemies may be damaged by the Knockback.

Passive

Vanguards have a passive skill called Grit. It allows the hero to take less damage and deal it right back if attacked by an enemy. If Grit is active, hits made deal more damage though each hit removes 1 Grit. There is a max amount of Grit available at a time.

To earn Grit, the Vanguard needs to deal damage using certain Skill Cards. These include:

  • Into the Fray: Move, and if the players end next to a Monster, gain Grit. The attack can knock back the enemy 2 hexes.
  • Beat It!: Move, with a +1 to that Move if players Push an enemy. Then knockback an ally or enemy 3 hexes away. If it’s a Hero or Ally, players and them gain 3 Shield. Then Leap to another spot.
  • Bladefall: Leap 3 hexes, then deal an area-of-effect attack around the Vanguard and Knockback all enemies 2 hexes. Players can then move to another spot.
