A Big Change Arrives to Norland with New Architecture

The "Big Summer Update" for Norland has finally arrived. This serves as the next step for the game as it introduces a wide range of changes. Today we'll take a look into the new architecture being implemented.

The new update allows multiple models for houses along with more visual layers. The update also results in the game having a better visual evolution for the city over time. In a post, developer Long Jaunt revealed that since they're changing the level topology, some buildings are going to be removed from the map and then placed into the construction menu. Players need not worry since they can place those buildings again for free. The studio also said that players are going to receive wood and gold as compensation for relocating other buildings and roads.

Residential Buildings

The update removes the peasant family house, the dormitory, and the soldier barracks. At the same time it introduces a universal residential building for these types of subjects. This new housing type comes with three variants and each one has five levels. The first three increase capacity from two to six people. The last two increase housing comfort, which can affect the mood of the residents. These last two levels are similar to individual peasant houses but serve up to six people.

Lord Residential Houses

Players can look forward to seeing the hall being expanded. It now includes a throne, kitchen, and a royal bedroom. Also added are the new lord residential houses and then expanded them by adding a reception room and a larger marital bed.

By the way, it's worth noting that plazas have been added and come with a market and tavern.

Map Grid

Since the sizes of the building have been increased, the construction grid size has been doubled. While buildings that have been placed very close together won’t block residents completely, moving between them slows them down and they’ll seek wider streets.

Another change is that housing comfort isn't just dependent on the quality of the building but also on the neighbors. For example, other housing, the hall, and social buildings add comfort. Meanwhile, industrial buildings lower the comfort.
