A new event pack has been released for Crusader Kings III which makes parenting both challenging and rewarding. Releasing alongside the Wards & Wardens Event Pack is a a free update that introduces a new hostage system.
In the game, hostages are landless children which are a Close Family member of a certain ruler. These children are sent to the court of another ruler as a guarantee of peace or submission. Basically, hostages are offered, demanded, or even exchanged, to prevent a war or end one. A character having a hostage is called as a Warden and receives certain bonuses.
New Hostage System
The new system for rulers when it comes to giving or trading of Hostages introduces a new side when it comes to historical medieval politics. While Hostages are indeed excellent tools to ensure peace, they can also be executed in times of war to deliver a great blow to the stability and morale of the enemy. Making things easier is that Hostages now have a new portrait icon.
It goes without saying that those who have Hostages that have notable status are rewarded not only with prestige but even renown.
Other Free Features
In addition to the new hostage system, the update also adds:
- a new Perpetual Hook type that’s between Weak and Strong Hooks. This one acts like a Weak hook which can be re-used every few years.
- a new Adoption interaction where certain rulers can bring in new members to their family and dynasty. Characters having the Compassionate trait or of a culture and with certain Traditions can Adopt.
- a new Eccentric personality trait which allows characters to develop their Lifestyles with ease but at the cost of public perception. That’s because the methods used are often seen as erratic and odd. Be on the lookout for several new event options added for the trait.
- six new events to the Pet Cat story Cycle added.
There are a lot of changes introduced by the new update that players are sure to love. For example, events which have been unlocked by Friends & Foes and Wards & Wardens have been decorated with special visuals to let players know which Event Pack they come from.
