A demo of the upcoming open-world survival sandbox game Soulmask is coming to Steam on February 5. Developed by CampFire Studio with Qooland Games serving as publisher, the game has been named as the next big Survival title for 2024 since it was initially introduced last year.
Soulmask puts you in a real-deal primitive land that's packed with ancient tribes, rituals, mysterious civilizations, and all sorts of remnants. You pretty much start with nothing and gather resources as you build up your tribe and recruit members. All of this to discover the mysterious truths of the civilization in the world.
The Tribesmen System
While initially it's about surviving against the world and its creatures and be the ultimate hunter, the game offers more than that. This is due to what is known as the game's tribesmen system. To survive the world, you'll need to build up the tribe from scratch. This helps you defend against your enemies and level up your game. What the system does is allow you to recruit almost all of the savage NPCs in the game and have them become your tribe members. With AI pathfinding along with customizable quests, it lets you organize how the tribe works seamlessly. In fact, you can even set the daily routines of those in your tribe. With the wide range of personalities and preferences available, this is sure to make your tribe full of life.
Realistic Physics
Another interesting feature you can look forward to is the realistic physics-based primitive combat style. There are eight weapon categories along with more than 50 combat skills which correspond to action modules and capture the essence that is primitive combat. When going against different opponents for example, you'll need to consider which weapon and action to use as well as which part to target when attacking. There are also different bosses for you to take on.
The Masks
The central theme of the game though are the Masks, which you can collect and even expand. These not only define the essence of what the game is but also ensure that your experience in navigating the world is enriched. There are going to different masks available in the game and each one has unique forms and functionalities. For example, some masks could allow you to freely possess NPCs while others may offer experiential traits like environmental mimicry. Overall, these masks more than guarantee that you get to define your own exploration and even combat style.
