Independent developer WalkTone announced that EVO Card is scheduled to be released worldwide on the PC via Steam in 2026. Currently in active development, this strategic roguelike deckbuilder pushes the genre beyond card collection and into full biological transformation.
EVO Card isn't simply about building a deck but evolving a living organism. The game is set in a brutal biopunk world where players need to defeat grotesque enemies. Once enemies are defeated to harvest organs and traits, grafting them directly onto their character to unlock powerful synergies and radically different playstyles. Every run in the game is pretty much a new experiment in survival and mutation.
The thing is compared to traditional deckbuilders, every evolutionary choice made in the game is fully visualized. As organs are grafted mid-run, the creature players have can mutate in real time. For example, the horns emerge, limbs change, and biological weapons take shape. It results in evolution not just a statistical decision but a visual and mechanical one.
There are billions of possible evolutionary outcomes and EVO Card embrace controlled chaos. The thing to remember is that no two players ever evolve the same creature and in addition, no two runs play out the same way.
Key features of the game include:
- The EVO System: Cards function as living entities that evolve dynamically based on the decisions of the players and they change combat flow mid-battle.
- Real-Time Visual Evolution: Each mutation is reflected directly on the character model and allow players to see their creation transform as the run progresses.
- Biopunk Aesthetic: A sharp and high-intensity visual style inspired by biological experimentation and brutal adaptation.
- Strategic Roguelike Depth: Randomized encounters and emergent synergies create deep, replayable tactical challenges.
- Steam Deck Optimized: Designed with handheld play in mind, featuring a UI tailored for seamless Steam Deck gameplay.
In a statement, solo developer WalkTone revealed that the goal was to develop a deckbuilding experience where evolution not only feels personal and unpredictable but also dangerous.
The studio went on to say that a playable demo for EVO Card is currently being developed and planned to be released sometime this year. Wishlist the game on Steam now.
