Genigods Lab announced that its upcoming ARPG Genigods: Nezha is launching in 2028. It's built in Unreal Engine 5 and to be available for the PC. The game has also been optimized for PlayStation platforms in collaboration with Sony.
Genigods: Nezha is a premium, pay-upfront, and hardcore action role-playing game that's set against the chaotic backdrop of ancient Chinese genesis mythology. Players take on the role of the Spirit Pearl, the very first spark of life forged by Nüwa, the Goddess of Life, from the essence of earth, water, and fire.
Throughout the epic journey, players evolve from a celestial artifact to become the first human, a woman who's been crafted from water and clay. Later they're reborn as the legendary Nezha. The journey is shared by legendary heroes that include the sun-feller Yi and the flood-tamer Yu. There's also Nüwa’s sentient gift that grows with the players and serves as the vital companion to solve ancient puzzles, conquer the toughest trials, and learn the dark truth behind this new world.
As mentioned, the game is being developed by Genigods Lab. It has a 100-person team that previously made the critically and commercially acclaimed My Hero Academia mobile game which was published by Sony Crunchyroll. This is also the team which developed the popular Condor Heroes series for mobile platforms.
In a statement, Genigods Lab co-founder and Head of Creative & Design Erdi Yao revealed that their mission is to ignite the epic celestial battles that can be experienced in Chinese mythology. He went on to say that for each skill cast and each choice made, it results in a new line in an ancient epic.
Jeet Kune Do Mechanics
One of the interesting things about GeniGods: Nezha is its combat. It's inspired by Bruce Lee’s iconic 'Be Water' philosophy through the Divine Water within Nezha. Her techniques basically adapt the essence of Jeet Kune Do. Players can condense water into a piercing One-Inch Flash for armor-breaking blows. They can also release water all at once like the sweeping Dragon’s Kick to tackle crowds of enemies at once. The system encourages players to master a defensive and reactive style of combat. It requires perfect timing to parry and counter with the adaptable precision of water itself.
