HELLCARD II Releasing Later this Year

Thing Trunk announced that HELLCARD II is launching sometime later in 2026. The game serves as the sequel to the critically acclaimed co-op deckbuilding roguelite. While it builds on the chaotic and tactical combat that made the original game a hit, this one leans even further into the RPG aspect of the crawl.

The core of HELLCARD II continues to be true when it comes to the intense card-battling mechanics that fans love. However, what this sequel does is to shift the paradigm from simple dungeon layouts to an actual pop-up book adventure. Players no longer just clear rooms and now traverse the pages of a story. They'll need to make tough choices as a team as they discover the truth behind the dragon menace.

Key features of HELLCARD II include:

  • Build the Heroes: Achievements unlock gear that can be equipped in future runs which can affect aesthetics, deck composition, and core mechanics.
  • Tactical Card Combat: The unique spatial positioning system returns and monsters can now be placed in either melee or ranged distances and divided between heroes.
  • Ultimate Single-Player Tactical Sandbox: Control all characters and all strategy.
  • Four person Co-Op Fellowship: Team up with up to three friends in seamless multiplayer battles and combine deck archetypes to create devastating synergies.
  • The Paperverse Expands: Dive back into Thing Trunk’s signature "Return 2 Games" aesthetic, a charming world built entirely of paper, now enhanced with new lighting, fluid animations, and richer environments.
  • Endless Chronicles: With more character classes, equipable gear, artifacts, and customizable decks, no two stories ever play out the same way.

For those excited about the game, the minimum system requirements are:

  • OS: Windows 10, 11
  • Processor: Quad-core CPU or greater
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: DirectX 11/12 GPU
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection

In a statement, Konstanty Kalicki at Thing Trunk shared that what defined the original HELLCARD was its tactical positioning coupled with emergent tactics. The new title takes it even further with Kalicki saying that this is the "book of adventures" that they've always wanted to make.

HELLCARD II is currently in development and to be released on PC and console sometime later in 2026. Wishlist the game on Steam now.
