Marisa of Liartop Mountain Releasing on PC and the Nintendo Switch this September

Marisa of Liartop Mountain is releasing on September 18 and to be available for the PC via Steam and the Nintendo Switch. This adventure RPG is inspired by classic gamebooks. It's a game where the choice of the players and the dice determine the path.

Marisa of Liartop Mountain is a game that's based on the Touhou Project. For those not familiar, the Touhou Project is a bullet hell shoot 'em up video game series that was created by independent Japanese doujin software developer Team Shanghai Alice.

The Scarlet Devil Mansion

Speaking of the Touhou Project, fans should be happy to know that in the game, they get to meet four characters from Scarlet Devil Mansion. They are Remilia, Flandre, Sakuya, and Patchouli. Their opinions could help players on their adventure, but it’s up to them to listen to them or not.

The Scarlet Devil Mansion is a European-style mansion located on a ridge at the edge of Misty Lake and owned by the Scarlet family.

The main residents are the Scarlet sisters Remilia and Flandre, who are also vampires. The mansion has powerful staff like Hong Meiling, who leads the outer guard. There's also Patchouli Knowledge who serves as the librarian and private tutor. Finally, Sakuya Izayoi is the chief maid and is also Remilia's personal attendant.

The Adventure

The story follows Reimu who ventures through a mysterious book and searches for Marisa’s whereabouts. This journey takes Reimu across the Japan-inspired land of Gensokyo. Gensokyo is actually the setting for the Touhou Project. It’s land that’s been sealed from the outside world and inhabited mainly by humans and yōkai. The latter are legendary creatures from Japanese folklore that are personified as bishōjo in an anthropomorphic moe style.

In the search for Marisa, Reimu gets to explore wondrous locales that include eccentric libraries, barren deserts, and peculiar circuses, to name a few. A lot of forks await on the surreal road ahead and when players encounter enemies along the way, they can decide whether to fight or flee. Each decision leads down different paths which in turn grows the story arc in a new direction and leads to multiple endings.
