Good news to those who own a Nintendo Switch! The immersive RPG experience that is Outward is releasing to the platform in 2024. This is a result of months of work between Nine Dots Studio and Sneaky Box.
Talking about the upcoming launch, Nine Dots Studio CEO and Creative Director Guillaume Boucher-Vidal shared that getting the game to the platform has always been a dream for them. However, he did have doubts as to whether it was even possible. Fueling the doubts further were the technical limitations being faced.
Boucher-Vidal revealed that considering how big the game is and how it was made in a weird context, there were very specific technical limitations. He said that the team over at Sneaky Box really managed to pull "a rabbit out of the hat" when it comes to this port. Considering that the game is now going to be compatible with the Switch in addition to the Steam Deck, he went on to say that it's safe to say the game can now be considered as travel friendly.
Outward is set in the world of Aurai where you get to take on the role of an ordinary adventurer that’s defending themselves against threatening creatures while braving hazardous environmental conditions and keeping healthy and hydrated. To survive this dazzling yet deadly world, you’ll need to be prepared. While it’s important to be cunning and come up with different strategies to bring down your enemies, you’ll also have to make sure that basic needs aren’t neglected.
In the game, you get the chance to create your very own landmark by helping people survive in this ruthless world through the City Building mechanic. Meanwhile you can get stronger by enhancing your weapons, armors, and trinkets with the enchanting system.
Outward The Definitive Edition is available for the PC via Steam. It offers the complete yet overhauled experience. This version comes with the content of The Soroboreans along with that of The Three Brothers. In addition to the quality-of-life improvements, The Definitive Edition also offered new weapons, dungeons, and even unique mechanics.
