Reworks Made to Talent Trees in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

A new update was released early this week in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. One of the big changes made was on the Talent Trees.

In a post, the development team over at Fatshark shared that when the game was first released back in 2022, there were clear goals on what each class should and where the class should shine. The problem was that over the years, the specialties and niches originally envisioned slowly spread out across all classes.

Zealot

One of these seems to be that of the Zealot. It was supposed to be the melee class but over time, coupled with the Ogryn Rework and release of the Arbites especially, this class fell behind. The rework done was to reinvigorate the Zealots tree to allow for more build diversity. While some talents were removed, there were also talents added. Basically the whole Layout was rebuilt from the ground up.

Psyker

For the Psyker, it remains to be in a decent state though the team admitted that improvements were still needed to ensure that the layout would allow for buildcrafting to be easier. New talents have been added, specifically three of which are defensive options. This is because the Psyker sometimes felt a bit too squishy compared to the other classes. Aside from introducing new talents, there were minor reworks and quality of life updates made to existing ones.

Veteran

For the Veteran, the goal for the changes made was to get a wider range of "viable" playstyles. An example are the Executioner’s stance and Infiltrate, which often see a drastic drop in pick rates once players step into Auric difficulty. The changes should result in making them more attractive options. The team has also increased flexibility in builds along with making sure that each choice players make feels like an actual choice.

Ogryn

Out of all the Classes, the Ogryn became one of the strongest after a previous rework. The main issue being looked into was how the Ogryn could deal immense amounts of damage without the need to sacrifice much in the terms of defense.

Arbites

When the Arbites first entered the Mourningstar, it quickly dominated in terms of pick rate and win rates. Like the Ogryn, the Arbites can be tanky without building towards it. They can also deal great damage without building towards it. The team revealed they're taking it a bit slower when it comes to tweaking it since it's still quite new and they don’t want to accidentally overadjust.
