STAR OCEAN THE SECOND STORY R is now available worldwide. The game is a 2.5D remake of the second installment of the STAR OCEAN franchise. It's out digitally for the PC through Steam. Digital and physical versions are also offered for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. This new title revitalizes the highly loved renowned 1998 RPG and offers, among others, a charming 2.5D aesthetic, rearranged soundtrack, and new difficulty settings.

Producer Kei Komaki revealed in a post that when the game was first announced, the response that they heard from fans worldwide "was incredibly exciting." He added that throughout the development of this title, they found new was to appreciate the original one. Komaki ended by saying that with the game now released, they're to thrilled for everyone to see their full vision.

The game puts players in the role of Claude, a Federation officer who's currently searching for a way home after being transported to an underdeveloped planet. Claude then gets into an encounter with a named Rena, who draws them together and the two are now on the quest to save her people, just what an ancient prophecy has foretold. Players actually have the option to choose from either Claude or Rena which they start the game. This should be a new experience for players since the perspectives and potential allies of the characters changed based on their choices.

STAR OCEAN THE SECOND STORY R offers a fast-paced and real-time combat along with a deep skill system and Private Actions. This not only allow players to grow the relationships with their party members but also unlock multiple different endings. The game has Japanese and English text with voiceover language support. The voiceovers are performed by members of the original cast. In addition, subtitle support for French, Italian, German, and Spanish is available through a software update.

The STAR OCEAN franchise is a long-running action-RPG series which span multiple titles. It celebrated its 25th anniversary back in 2021. The franchise is well known for its exciting gameplay, epic storylines, and diverse cast of characters. There’s also the innovative approach to action combat.
