Hardwired Studios announced that its upcoming action RPG Carbon has reached a new milestone. The game has managed to hit 40,000 wishlists.

For the studio, this is a clear signal that what they've been making is not only "landing with the right people" but also reaching further than what they could have hoped. Each single wishlist is a sign of interest and trust. In a statement, the studio shared that they'll continue sharing progress on the development of the game. The next steps are already in place and inviting everyone to be "along for the ride."

Carbon puts players in the role of a nameless convict who has been drafted into forced service for a megacorporation’s private army. Before they're deployed, their body is rebuilt. It's either rewritten at the DNA level or being reinforced with black market cybernetic implants. Regardless, it means they're no longer fully human. They're then dropped onto the ruined surface of the Earth and sent into combat zones crawling with rogue AI, hostile factions, and warped remnants of failed experiments.

Gone and Abandoned

The game is set at a time when the Earth has been abandoned. The planet became a hostile place as a result of an accident that occurred during a terraforming research project. Continents have been overwhelmed with a mutation of nature with the surface of the planet experiencing a new plague. Thousands of vast cities, which have been turned into post-apocalyptic settlements, now serve as a new home to the majority of mankind.

Bio vs Tech

One of the key features of the game is players being able to choose between Bio (Geneware/Chemware) or Tech (Cyberware/Nanoware). The choices serve as the basis for the asymmetric gameplay. The two paths offer different play styles and affect the overall game experience.

Players can also choose their body type, augmentation, and progress, in one of 18 unique core specializations. Meanwhile, the core specializations provide unique passive skill trees that allow players to shape the play style to their needs. Players can choose from more than 100 skills and socket them into the talent tree to empower or transform them entirely with new skill trees.
