Studio Says They’re Trying Out New Ideas for The Elder Scrolls Online in 2025

The year is almost over and 2025 is on the horizon. That means changes are coming and that's true for The Elder Scrolls Online. Indeed there's a lot planned that's sure to excite players.

In a post, Studio Director of ZeniMax Online Studios Matt Firor revealed that they've been listening to the community and agrees that they need to experiment so as to shake things up and not become so predictable. Indeed, not only does the game need new and different types of content but also address the long-standing feedback.

According to Firor, they've actually started working on some ideas and these are going to be tested in 2015. These systems and ideas are going to be marked as "experiments" in patch notes with Firor stating that they "may or may not be fleshed out into full game systems." One of the changes planned is to break up content into seasons which you can read more about here.

Cyrodiil Performance

Firor said that another issue they're looking into is the Cyrodiil performance. Their goal is to return it to the concurrency levels that they supported in 2014. As a result, they'll be experimenting with a Cyrodiil campaign where all classes are going to have PvP-specific skills which replace the standard player skills. The expectation is that they should be able to support more players per campaign.

Other Planned Improvements

In addition to what's already mentioned, other tests and improvements based on player feedback that's being focused on are:

  • Increasing the difficulty of standard overworld combat.
  • Improving the overall feel of combat with animation, FX, and potentially audio work.
  • Experimenting with more zones like Craglorn, created exclusively for high-end group and soft-group content with associated gear chase .
  • Adding and refining tools to make guild recruitment, interaction, and management easier and more logical.

What did you think of the studio’s plans for 2025? What other issues should the team address?
