Quiet Little Feet announced that its upcoming title Where Birds Go To Sleep is a narrative adventure mystery game unlike any other. It's a combination of tabletop role-playing games, point & click adventures, and mystery games. The game features narrative choices and world exploration.
For those wondering, developer Quiet Little Feet is actually a husband-and-wife team. In a statement, they revealed that they're fascinated by player-driven narratives along with the choices and the consequences that such stories can have both on and outside of the screen. Their goal is to revolutionise narrative-driven video games and video-game storytelling by bringing player agency into the story.
The Prison Island
Where Birds Go To Sleep tells the story of a tower being built with the goal of it reaching the heavens and being able to meet God. As the tower nears completion, an island suddenly appears in the distant sea. Prisoners are later sent to establish a colony and chart it.
Players take on the role of Cormo, a villainous pirate-turned-explorer who's driven by greed. He agrees to go on a secret mission within the prison island. However, the journey goes awry as Cormo is shipwrecked with toxic and mind-numbing fog starting to shroud the island.
Charting the Unknown
The whole island presents a multi-layered and interlocking mystery. Players get to delve into the depths of the prison colony, which is a shifting island covered in a strange and mind-altering fog. They'll have to solve diegetic puzzles and uncover secrets that's hidden around every corner. Players have to collect clues and use items. Remember that secrets hide in plain sight. Players have to use tools both mundane and cosmic to uncover them.
Open Those Eyes
Where Birds Go To Sleep has players see the world through the eyes of a mentally and morally unstable person. On their journey they get to meet a handful of developed, complex characters.
On a more personal level, players should remember that it’s all about awareness and knowledge. While stats and attributes can help ease the journey, they won’t solve the cosmic mysteries. Uncover secrets and hidden messages around every corner.
