It's been a little under two weeks since Witchfire was released in Early Access on Steam. However, it seems a lot of players have been progressing rather well and seem to have hit a bump in the road.
It all started with a question from a player who asked if progression in the game was tied to the Preyer Level. The player went on to share that they've been on Gnosis iv for a week and have started seeing tougher mobs once they breached level 70. Developer The Astronauts assured everyone that the level of the players won't affect the difficulty, but it is instead on the Gnosis level.
While this is true in most cases, the studio did say that there's a rather tiny exception to this and this is when the Drowned Captain mini-boss (a Faithful) appears once players reach level 10 rather than reaching a certain Gnosis level. The good news is that all of these are going to be changed when the next patch comes out.
Now for those wondering why the game feels more difficult after a rather simple level up, the studio has an answer for that. In particular, the studio revealed that each time players level up, the witch actually reorganizes her defense. What that means is that there's a re-roll for each map.
Increasing Gnosis
Now if difficulty increases when the level of Gnosis goes up, there are those who are asking why increase Gnosis in the first place? According to the studio, the answer is simple and it's because it's not possible to finish the game without increasing the Gnosis. An example is that some areas are locked with a spell that's so advanced that once may need a deeper knowledge when it comes to the occult and the esoteric. Basically, it means having a higher Gnosis level.
What do you think? Is this a go explanation from the studio? By the way, you can also learn about the game’s roadmap while in Early Access here.
In the Witchfire, players have to piece together a story from the past in order to save the future. They'll need to investigate ships that are crashing on the verge of the witch’s land and try to find the artifact which can tip the scales in the ongoing battle between the Church and the witches.
