Endgame Progression in New World: Aeternum to be Overhauled

Amazon Games announced that they're making big changes in New World: Aeternum. In particular, the endgame progression is set to be overhauled. This change arrives to the game along with the Nighthaven update.

According to the studio, the reason for the changes is to form a connective tissue that motivates a variety of play when it comes to endgame activities. It should also allow players to customize their loadouts in ways they never could before to discover unique and powerful combinations of equipment. There are a lot of improvements and aside from the increase in level cap, the gear score is being raised from 725 to 800. Meanwhile, PvP Modes currently scale gear from 700 to 775.

Gear Modding System

Another change is that instead of one customizable gem socket, gear now has as many as four empty sockets. It allows players to install new perk modifiers known as "charms." There are three types of charm sockets and charms and these are Offensive, Defensive, and Skill. The charms can be picked up fully refined though more commonly need to be crafted with rare materials which drop from endgame content.

Set Bonuses

Set bonuses are also being introduced to the game. The ultra rare sets of gear can be earned from pinnacle endgame content that include Isle of Night Raid, Catacombs, and the PvP Track. The studio hopes that players would mix and match these sets to get their desired build type.

The set bonuses come in two types. Some bonuses activate at two equipped pieces and then get better at four equipped pieces (2/4). Some only activate at three pieces and then get better at five pieces (3/5). Overall, it means that there are seven possible combinations of set bonus configurations. It's u p for players to decide the best combination of effects that best suits their unique playstyle.

Umbrals

The studio is also bringing in a new generation of Umbral Shards. This means that all gear in the new paradigm stays viable as well as being upgradable with umbrals instead of the clunky system at the gypsum kiln. Any gear with Gear Score of at least 700 can be upgraded with Umbrals.

The system now works slightly differently than umbrals in the past since it is now a currency with a wallet cap of 1,000 and a weekly rate limit to earn. This should keep Umbral's value from deteriorating over time, which was a problem we saw with the previous version of this system.

These are just of the changes being implemented to the endgame progression. Read more about what else is planned here.

The Nighthaven update releases October 13 and also introduces the new Catacombs mode.
